NHL Playoffs 2014: Anaheim Ducks rule Frederik Andersen out for series

The Anaheim Ducks have a chance to close out their series against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night but they’ll have to march on without the safety net of having netminder Frederick Andersen available for them. Andersen’s injury is what caused a situation to arise where John Gibson starts in net for the Ducks but that has actually turned to be a blessing in disguise.

Gibson will have to continue being the goal stopper he’s been so far for Anaheim as Andersen has been ruled out for the remainder of the series against the Kings.

Now, he’s just out for the series and not the duration of those post season. If the Ducks win tonight they’ll have clinched a spot in the Western Conference Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks and will have a little bit of rest in between. It’s unclear if Andersen will get back to the level he needs to be in order to enter the discussion of returning, but as long as Gibson stays hot, there’s really nothing better for Andersen to do than rest for the Conference Finals and a potential shot at the Stanley Cup.
