Draft and that hole still remains. Right now the best receiver on the Panthers roster is either Jason Avant or Jerricho Cotchery. Not the ideal situation for a team who finished 29th in passing last season.

Adding Johnson gives Cam Newton the much needed number one target and opens the field up for the rest of the receivers to do action against lesser defenders and for disallows the defense to pile eight in the box when game planning for Newton and the running game. Johnson alone isn’t enough to make the Panthers a top-5 passing offense, but looking at what the team has now, Johnson is a clear upgrade regardless of the salary that comes attached to him.
