Former Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns’ point Elfrid Payton should see his stock rise as the 2014 NBA Draft approaches. He may not be a well-known commodity, but Payton is projected as a first round pick by most pundits.
Draft Express ranks Payton as the 25th-best prospect in the 2014 draft and currently projects him to be selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 27th-overall pick (that the Suns acquired from the Indiana Pacers.
During the NBA Scouting Combine on Thursday, several teams talked to Payton. According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Payton has already met with the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors.

Payton measured in at 6’2.5″ and 185 pounds at the combine. His wingspan is 6’8″ and his standing reach is 8’2.5″.
Last season, Payton averaged 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game during the 2013-14 season. Payton shot 50.0% from the floor, but just 25.9% from beyond the arc and 59.0% from the free throw line.
