There seems to be a growing trend recently in the NBA as it pertains to hiring head coaches that have barely any coaching experience at all. This fact was evidenced less than 24 hours ago with the Golden State Warriors’ hiring of Steve Kerr straight from the TNT broadcasting booth.

In taking the Warriors job, Kerr spurned the New York Knicks and his old Chicago Bulls coach, Phil Jackson, who recently took over the basketball operations for the organization, leaving their search for a head coach still wide open.

Now it seems that they may keep up with the practice of seeking out candidates that have little to no coaching experience as ESPN is reporting on Thursday that they’re interested in Luke Walton, Tyronn Lue and Derek Fisher to fill the open slot.

"Three candidates who will thus receive consideration from Jackson, sources said, are Luke Walton and Tyronn Lue — former players under Jackson who have already begun their coaching careers — as well as Oklahoma City Thunder guard Derek Fisher— if Fisher elects to stop playing after this season as he has hinted."

Walton was hired as a player development coach for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League for the 2013-14 season and Lue is a member of the Los Angeles Clippers coaching staff, so those two do at least sport some coaching experience on the resume, while Fisher has yet to officially end his playing career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
