There was talk of Barcelona considering putting superstar Lionel Messi up for sale for $250 million euros, and using the cash to overhaul the squad this summer. Messi’s old teammate and former Barcelona star Ronaldinho said that he hoped Messi would be staying at Barcelona.
“Without a doubt, I believe [Messi] is the best player in the world,” Ronaldinho said, via ESPN FC. “He is the most key player for Barca to continue being the Barca of before. I cannot imagine Messi at another club which is not Barca, but as his friend, I want to see him happy. For the good of football, I want to see him at Barcelona.”
Not long after Ronaldinho’s statement, Lionel Messi and Barcelona agreed to terms on a new deal.
A statement on the club’s website read: “FC Barcelona has reached an agreement to adjust the terms in the contract binding Leo Messi to the club as a professional first-team player.
“The revised and updated contract will be signed over the next few days.”
