College baseball: Florida Gators claim 2014 SEC championship

With their 4-2 win over the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, the Florida Gators have won the outright 2014 SEC college baseball championship, keeping up the amazing athletic run the school started with their march to the Final Four in basketball recently.

The Gators came into this week ranked 8th in the country according to the Baseball America standings after they went just 1-3 overall last week, however they’ll be heading into this week now riding a much bigger high as they wait the chance to make a run in the College World Series.

The Gators have had their ups and downs this season, so they would need to turn it on at the right time come June if they want to make that run toward the College World Series title. Although they went just 1-3 last week, they’ve had their bright moments throughout the year such as handling the then top-ranked Florida State Seminoles on more than one occasion throughout this season.

But for now, congratulations are in order for the Gators as they continue to own the SEC both on the court and on the diamond.
