The New York Knicks got burned bad when Steve Kerr decided he’d rather coach the Golden State Warriors than step into a messy situation with the Knicks. But while Kerr is now out of the questions, New York is looking at its other options and one of the shortlisted names is a coach would fits the exact opposite of Phil Jackson’s triangle scheme.
According to a source, Jackson was to meet with Knicks general manager Steve Mills on Thursday night at Chicago’s pre-draft combine to go over some candidates. Jackson stayed away from the gym where players worked out, presumably to avoid media.
Jackson seems to be the best coaching option out there and even though he doesn’t fit the Knicks scheme they may want to install, it appears they’re willing to adapt to allow for him to be hired. So far there hasn’t been a frontrunner identified for the job but there may be a chance we hear Jackson’s name more and more as hiring a fiery coach like he is may be what the Knicks need to light a fire under them.
