Ole Miss Football Recruiting: Four-star RB Eric Swinney commits to Rebels
Ole Miss fans woke up to some good news on Friday when four-star running back Eric Swinney (Tyrone, Ga. Sandy Creek) committed to the Rebels a few minutes after 7:00 a.m. at a press conference at his high school.
Swinney picked the Rebels over the SEC west rival Auburn Tigers and Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee who rounded out his top five previously released in late April.
The 5-10, 188-pound Swinney is the No. 98 player overall, No. 12 running back and the No. 12 player in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Ole Miss made up a lot of ground in his recruitment in the past month to chase down the Tigers who were his leader when Swinney visited Oxford for an unofficial visit on May 3, but his relationship with his recruiters Maurice Harris and Derrick Nix as well as head coach Hugh Freeze pushed the Rebels to the top along with the notoriously beautiful campus and the vibe he received while being on campus.
Swinney brings the total package to the running back position as a runner who can run in between the tackles as well as bounce it to the perimeter and outrun the defense. A willing blocker and a capable receiver out of the backfield, the Rebels will have a nice weapon in the backfield to complement the other runners on the roster, including fellow 2015 commitment Rawleigh Williams III (Dallas, Texas. Bishop Lynch).
Ole Miss now has the nation’s No. 34 class and the No. 13 ranked class in the SEC with the commitment of Swinney who is their highest-ranked of their five commitments.
