UPDATE: The Penguins pulled a last minute switcharoo at the press conference and announced that Bylsma will be keeping his job.
The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a disappointing exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs earlier this week when the New York Rangers came away with a win in Game 7. Immediately following the loss, which concluded an underwhelming postseason run from the Penguins, there was some chatter that the team could benefit from firing head coach Dan Bylsma.
The Penguins have been unable to get over the hump in recent years, but the stars were taking the responsibility and saying Bylsma was not to blame.
However, it looks like that may not matter.
Today could very well be the day that the Penguins brass makes the decision to fire Dan Bylsma, with a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET. The team announced the press conference would be held on Friday morning.
If Bylsma is fired, the Penguins will look for a new coach that they hope will be able to maximize the talent of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, which seemed to disappear during their postseason run.
We will find out for certain at 11:30 a.m. ET whether or not Bylsma has been fired, but that appears to be the direction that we are headed.
