Reds Joey Votto getting MRI, DL likely

Just when it seemed like the injury bug had stopped biting the Reds, their franchise player could be headed to the disabled list.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Joey Votto is not with the team as they travel to Philadelphia to begin a road trip against the Phillies. Votto instead stayed behind and is getting an MRI on his left knee. His sources say that it is likely he ends up on the disabled list.

Votto needed surgery on that same left knee two years ago in mid-July, a procedure which cost him three months of playing time. The Reds played a double-header against the Padres on Thursday. Votto went a combined 0-for-6 with a walk in each game but three strikeouts in the nightcap. The club has confirmed neither the Votto injury nor any contingency plans should he be shelved.
