Star Wars: Episode VII begins filming today: First look at Star Wars 7

If you were getting excited for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” that level of excitement is only going to grow with the news that production for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film has begun today — Friday, May 16.

The Bad Robot Twitter feed sent out a message that included a photo of the “Star Wars: Episode VII” clapperboard to announce it was Day One of the filming.

There is no exact word on where the filming is taking place, but the sand on the clapperboard seems to fall in line with rumors that sets were seen on deserts in Abu Dhabi.

Joining the original stars of Star Wars – Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker — are the likes of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

The film is expected to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
