Jayson Werth with game-saving catch for Nationals

It hasn’t been an easy road for the Nationals this season, and the last thing they needed to do was to lose a series opener against the New York Mets.

That’s why, when Matt Williams turned to his closer, Rafael Soriano, in the ninth inning up by three runs, it seemed like the game was well in hand. When Soriano got to two outs, it seemed like the victory horn would be blowing across D.C. Then, pinch-hitter Juan Lagares walked. Then lead-off man Eric Young, Jr. walked. That brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Daniel Murphy, who came into the game with 3 home runs under his belt for the season.

After the game, as MLB.com’s David Wilson says, Jayson Werth quipped, “I probably should’ve untucked my shirt.”
