As the NBA coaching rumors begin to swirl, Mike Dunleavy is picking up more and more steam as a potential head coach for a couple of teams next season. According to reports, Dunleavy is a candidate for the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers head coaching jobs, according to ESPN.com.
Dunleavy recently had a lengthy meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is the favorite to land the gig.
In fact, according to the ESPN report, Dunleavy is not at the top of the list for Jackson in New York.
The Knicks have been spurned by their top choice, Steve Kerr, who ultimately decided to sign on with the Golden State Warriors, so they may be wise to avoid playing hard ball and go after anyone who is showing any inkling of interest.
Dunleavy has not been in the league since coaching the Clippers from 2003-2010, so perhaps he would be interested in returning to Los Angeles, only this time with the Lakers, for another run in the NBA.
