Red Sox place Will Middlebrooks on disabled list, recall Brock Holt

The Boston Red Sox will continue their six game home stand tonight against the Detroit Tigers. It’s the second game of the three game weekend series before they welcome the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday-Thursday.

Before tonight’s game against the Tigers, the Boston Red Sox have placed infielder Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured finger. This is the second time this season that the Red Sox have had to place Middlebrooks on the disabled list, which is pretty disappointing for Boston’s third baseman.

With Middlebrooks heading back to the DL, the organization has decided to call up infielder Brock Holt. Holt was brought up in April after Middlebrooks’ first stint on the disabled list to start the 2014 season. Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch last Sunday and has tried to play through the pain but it appears to be too much.

Holt is currently with the team and will start at third base for the Red Sox later on tonight against the Tigers. There’s no timetable for Middlebrooks’ return to the starting lineup.
