Sounds like L.A. Police Commission president Steve Soboroff had quite the night a few evenings ago.
Sitting courtside at Game 3 of the Oklahoma City Thunder – Los Angeles Clippers series, Soboroff just so happened to be seated next to pop starlett Rihanna.
He decided to ask the singer for a photo (because, duh) but as the two were taking their selfie, Rihanna dropped his iPhone, cracking the screen in the process. Soboroff wasn’t too bummed, after all, he just took a selfie with a bra-less Rihanna but the Grammy award winner felt bad so she donated $25,000 to the LAPD.
In addition, she decided to autograph the phone which was put on eBay with proceeds for the still working phone benefiting the Los Angeles Police Foundation.
Not expecting to get much, the starting price on the three-day auction began at a relatively paltry $250 dollars but quickly began to rise until it capped at out $66,500.
Yes, somebody just paid nearly $70,000 dollars for a broken iPhone with Rihanna’s autograph. Granted, it all went to a good cause but still – really?!
