Carlos Beltran of the New York Yankees was placed on the disabled list Thursday due to a bone spur in his right elbow. The bone spur is apparently causing great pain when Beltran attempts to swing the bat.
Despite being given cortisone shots to alleviate the pain, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has said that Beltran will now travel to see Dr. James Andrews to seek a second opinion. He is now the third Yankee to visit Dr. Andrews thus far in the season, joining Ivan Nova and CC Sabathia.
“Players get second opinions and it’s their option, and I’m not sure where he’s going after that,” Girardi said.
Beltran hinted earlier this week that surgery may be in order and that if it happens, it will most likely be during the season.
