It wasn’t long ago that the folks at Facebook attempted to acquire the mobile messaging service Snapchat, but they were unsuccessful. No worries for the social networking site, however, as their seemingly unlimited bank account is allowing them to go out and develop an app of their own.

According to the Financial Times, Facebook is working on their own video-chat application internally. The report states that the application will be called “Slingshot.”

The “Slingshot” app would work a lot like the new video messaging service on Snapchat, where you can send short video clips by touching the screen. The app has been in the works for the past few months and there is a chance that we could see the final product later this month. However, there are also mixed reports about whether or not the app will ever make its way to the public.

Mark Zuckerberg, the man behind Facebook, has been following the progress every step of the way.

We will have to wait and see whether or not the Slingshot app ever makes its way to the market.
