FX Announces Premiere Date for The Strain

Over the course of the past few months, the people over at FX Networks have been releasing a series of ominous teaser trailers for their upcoming horror series The Strain. Now, it would seem that the network has set an official premiere date for the creepy new series. The Strain will premiere on FX on July 13, 2014.

The network has been pretty stingy when it comes to releasing any real footage from the series. In fact, they have yet to really show any actual footage from the series; however, in some strange way, this has actually helped to build anticipation for the series.

As some of you may already know, The Strain is based off of a trilogy of novels written by horror icon and Academy Award nominated director Guillermo Del Toro and best-selling author Chuck Hogan.

For those of you not yet familiar with the premise of the creepy new series, here is a look at the official synopsis for the series courtesy of FX.

A thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.”

It was previously reported that the series was set to debut on July 19th, but it would seem that fans will get their fix just a little bit earlier, and let’s be honest, that is rarely ever a bad thing.

Del Toro himself will direct the first episode of the series.

Carlton Cuse, who has worked on series like Lost and Bates Motel will serve as Showrunner for The Strain.

The series will star House of Cards actor Corey Stoll as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather. The Strain also stars Harry Potter actor David BradleyNikolai WitschlNatalie BrownBen HylandDrew NelsonPedro Miguel ArceAlex Paxton-Beesley, and more.
