Weeks after Hugh Jackman stated he’s unsure if he’ll continue as the Wolverine, the actor has changed his tune, stating he’s down to do another X-Men movie.
Speaking to IGN on the red carpet at the X-Men: Days of Future Past Australian premiere, Jackman said he’d been re-invigorated by his latest outing as the character.
“At one point, you’re right, I said I was pretty sure. But I’m less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie…I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it’s going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me.”
Jackman’s actual statements in regards to him possibly moving on from a character he’s played the last fourteen years? “I’m excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven’t signed on signed on. I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one, I’m not going to do it.”
Based off of his gripes with the Wolverine franchise, you can’t blame him. While Jackman’s Wolverine character is one of the more dynamic, popular characters MARVEL comics has to offer, his films haven’t lived up to the hype. The first film, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, failed to impress both the comic book fans and casual fans. And the sequel “The Wolverine” was no better.
Is Jackman having a simple change of heart or is he backtracking after receiving pressure from his higher-ups? It’s hard to tell considering the comments and timing of the quotes, but regardless of why he’s changed his tune, it’s good to see that Hugh Jackman isn’t ready to give up his Wolverine role.
