There were a lot of people that were upset last week when the Golden State Warriors decided to fire head coach Mark Jackson after three seasons, the last two of which he led the team to playoff appearances. Not only were the fans upset, but other players around the league were a bit perturbed by the firing that many found unjustifiable.
That’s why, prior to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers on Sunday, it was nice to see LeBron James walk over to the broadcast table where Jackson was beginning his second stint as an ESPN analyst and give him an embrace as well as some whispers of encouragement.
It’s fantastic to see a sign of respect like that from the most notable representative the league has to offer to the one person that people feel was wronged by his superiors.
You do have to wonder, though, could this be a potential preview of a player and coach embracing? Jackson, despite his ESPN deal, is still considered an outside option for the vacant Knicks job and LeBron, as we all know, can opt out of his deal this season and enter free agency, where the Knicks would most definitely be expected to make a run.
