At the Italian Open men’s final on Sunday morning, top-ranked Rafael Nadal took on No. 2 Novak Djokovic in yet another battle of the two top men’s singles players in the world. Entering the match, Nadal had defeated Djokovic 13 of the 16 times they’ve played on clay, but Sunday was different.
Djokovic was on point throughout the day while Nadal was getting a little wild at times and that ended with the Serbian earning the win (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) and taking home the Italian Open title for the third time in his career.
It was a fascinating match with Djokovic falling behind early, but he was able to storm back in the match and come out on top.
After his win, Djokovic dedicated the victory to victims of the floods in Serbia.
As always, Nadal and Djokovic put on another great show and it will be exciting to see when they meet again. If we are lucky, it could be in the French Open at Roland Garros in just one week.
