Red Wings coach Mike Babcock staying for another season

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock and his future with the franchise.

What did Babcock tell Yahoo Sports when asked about his return? “A hundred percent.”

The Red Wings want him back. Babcock wants to stay. I see no movement in head coaching staff in the near future; at least through the year left on his contract.

Babcock enjoys being in Detroit. “I’m real comfortable, and I mean that, and I’ve said it. I’m on record. I’m comfortable in my situation. It’s not like I need someone to do anything right now. I’m fine because I think our team’s going in the right direction again.”

When asked about the possibility of an extension, Babcock simply stated that he’s “open to anything.” He believes that the franchise is headed in the right direction, and seeing the extent of the changes could be an excellent persuasion factor for Babcock to stay.

Babcock is currently the longest tenured coach in the NHL, heading into his 10th season in Detroit.
