Ricky Rubio says Kevin Love shouldn't be Minnesota Timberwolves leader

When it rains, it pours and for Minnesota Timberwolves fans, it’s a monsoon.

After reports leaked suggesting that Kevin Love essentially wants a trade, now his teammates are speaking up and the comments aren’t exactly ringing endorsements for the All-Star power forward.

Perhaps point guard Ricky Rubio already knew of Love’s desire to leave the Timberwolves or maybe he’s just excellent at foreshadowing. Whatever the case may be, the native Spaniard spoke with Basket Americano earlier this week and hinted that Love may not have the gusto to be Minnesota’s leader.

He is a special player, his numbers are unbelievable but maybe our leader must be other player. He is our leader in points and another things but he can’t be or he doesn’t want to be our “voice” leader. Many kind of leaders. Perhaps he shouldn’t have been our leader, perhaps Kevin Martin could have been our leader because he had more experience, perhaps I could take a step ahead to be the definitive leader.

While I’m not sure Kevin Martin is the guy you want as your vocal leader, it’s possible Rubio does have a point. Of course, his comments couldn’t come out at a worse time as they appear to throw Love under the bus.
