The last thing that the Pirates need is for Starling Marte to seriously injure himself. For now, it seems like that’s not the case, although their sparkplug has given them a scare.
Starling Marte left the second game of a Pirates-Yankees doubleheader in the 7th inning after tweaking his hamstring. According to Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 25 year old felt the muscle tighten up on him after he hit a homer in the top of the 6th inning. The Pirates also lost right fielder Jose Tabata during the game because of hamstring tightness.
Brink says that Marte does expect to play in Tuesday’s game at PNC Park vs. Baltimore. The off day on Monday certainly doesn’t hurt the situation.
