Twins will call up Chris Herrmann

As the Minnesota Twins gear up to for a National League tour in California, they decided to call up an utility man in place of a pitcher.

Andy Greder of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports that the Twins will call up Chris Hermann and option out reliever Mike Tonkin as they get ready to face the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. The move provides bench depth in the event that a pinch-hitter is needed for the pitcher in a National League park.

In his time with the big league club, Tonkin compiled no win-loss record, but had a 5.84 ERA over 12.1 innings with nine strikeouts.

Herrmann has played in 15 games with the Twins in 2014, hitting with a .128/.190/.128 slash line.
