The San Diego Chargers are still trying to sort out the future of wide receiver Malcolm Floyd. Early last year he suffered a career threatening neck injury, but there are reports that he could be cleared to play in 2014.

From the Union-Tribune San Diego:

"The Chargers wide receiver stopped short of declaring a decision outright — “Coach will keep you updated,” he said with a coy smile — but it seems, following the latest medical checkup, one has been made. Floyd is expected to play in 2014, team and league sources said, after a Sept. 15 neck injury threatened his career."

Later Floyd elaborated on what he was told by the doctor.

“The doc said … I’m at risk just like anybody else,” Floyd said Monday. “There’s not really a worry. As far as going out there and performing, I’m really excited to make plays again. Hopefully, I can do more this year than I ever have. … I’m feeling good. I think I feel like my old self.”

Floyd participated in voluntary workouts earlier this spring, and quarterback Philip Rivers said he looked good. Rivers went on to express a hope and desire that Floyd “can keep progressing.”

“It was good seeing him,” Rivers said. “He looks good. He has that smile like he always does. That was a tough injury. I think it was tough on him, tougher than maybe we know. He wasn’t used to not being around us, not being out there playing with us. You’ve been out there for 10 years with us.

“Hopefully, he can keep progressing, and we’ll see where he stands, if he’s ready to roll or not. You’d hate for it to end the way it did. Hopefully, he’s back rolling. He looks good and himself from all I’ve seen.”
