Mao Asada to sit out next season

Mao Asada rebounded from a disappointing performance at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia by bringing home the World Figure Skating Championship earlier this year. Now, she is ready to take a full year off from competition as she considers the next step of her career.

“I worked very hard from Vancouver to Sochi,” Asada said, via the Associated Press. “Now I feel it’s time to take a year off and rest. We’ll see how I feel after a break. At this point it is 50-50.

“I’m taking a year to slowly think about what my next goal will be. I don’t know what the future holds.”

Asada has had an impressive run that included three World Championships and a silver medal in the Vancouver Olympics. However, the physical and emotional toll that all of the competition has taken on Asada’s body has brought us to a point where she feels it is best to take the time off.
