The Miami Marlins lost their ace Jose Fernandez earlier this month when it was announced he’d need Tommy John surgery to correct a torn UCL he had suffered. If you follow Miami baseball at all, there’s not much else to be excited about then Fernandez as he was on his way to becoming one of the bright and shining aces in all of baseball.

Needless to say, Marlins fans are starting to show their support for Fernandez and one Marlins fan is boisterously leading the charge. Marlins fan and FanSided blogger Andy Salgado decided that he needed to lead the support of Fernandez and vowed to shave his head and beard to let the Marlins ace know he’s not alone as he recovers from surgery.

The video is worth describing but you have to see it to truly get the intense message across:

Not only did Salgado shave his head and beard — rather spontaneously — but he’s vowed to not cut either until Fernandez returns to the Marlins rotation and pitches once again. That seems like an easy task, but Tommy John surgery requires a rather extensive amount of recovery and it could be a year until Fernandez returns to the mound.

Never the less, Salgado is sticking by his commitment to supporting Fernandez and it’s really something that all Marlins fans should get behind. After all, there isn’t much to be all that excited about in Miami when it comes to baseball but Fernandez is the bright shining light at the end of the tunnel and he’ll need all the support he can get from fans as he recovers.
