In an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, former Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins said he thinks he’s the number one player in the NBA Draft.

Wiggins is not known for speaking out or speaking much at all. This makes his sentiments even more impactful, although you would expect anyone of his talents and pedigree to have a lot of confidence in themselves.

Even though what Wiggins thinks is not technically relevant to any decision the team with the top pick will make, it seems like a good sign that he considers himself the best player, ahead of the likes of Jabari Parker and former teammate Joel Embiid. Of course, later in the interview, he qualified by saying not going number one won’t be the end of the world either.

In all likelihood, and whether Wiggins came out and said this or not, he will be the top pick in the 2014 draft. There are only three players up for discussion as the top pick and while Wiggins has questions surrounding him, the other two seem to have much larger marks against them.

Wiggins’ future success all comes down to chance at this point. He is an immensely talented athlete and defensive player. His offense needs work and he cannot be the featured player on a team just yet. Depending on WHO drafts him, not where, will determine how great of a draft pick Wiggins will be.
