Wednesday brings a classic MLB split schedule with four afternoon games leading up to a full 11-game evening with all 30 teams scheduled to take the diamond at some time. With the Tigers and Indians getting underway at 12:05, make sure to get your roster moves in early before rosters lock.
Whenever your roster moves include looking on the waiver wire for starting pitching, you can find my picks each afternoon here on Fansided. Check out my picks archive here where you can also set a bookmark for the daily updates. To see my recent results, check the chart on the final slide of the post. All of my choices are available in at least half of ESPN leagues, and their ownership percentage is included in parentheses. For each selection, I also include my perspective of the risk and reward for the scheduled start on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest risk and the highest reward.
Here’s the options I like the most on Wednesday:
Tyson Ross-San Diego Padres (49.0%)
Ross has allowed a total of three runs in his last three starts going exactly seven innings in each outing. In Game Two of the Padres double-header last Thursday, he held Cincinnati to three hits and one run in seven innings while walking a season-high five and striking out eight.
He did get the win in that outing moving to 5-3 on the year with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He’s averaging just under a strikeout an inning and has been especially effective at home at pitcher-friendly Petco Park. In five home starts, he’s 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA and 36 K’s in 34 innings.
He’ll take the mound in San Diego late on Wednesday night as the Padres host the Twins in a nice matchup for Ross to continue his strong run at home.
