Chances are, you’ve never heard of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but Omar Garcia may change that.
A Milwaukee Brewers 2013 seventh round draft pick, center fielder Garcia was fully extended in left-center field, taking away extra bases from a Quad Cities player at Grand Chute’s Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium last week.
Despite a disappointing season at the plate for Garcia –.242 average, with a .327 on-base percentage– he managed to raise some eyebrows with his flashy grab at the warning track. The play made ESPN Sportcenter’s “Top 10,” actually reaching the top spot on the countdown.
The 20-year old Garcia is recognized for his defensive prowess in the past, but it may be his speed that gets him to the major leagues one day. Garcia has 49 stolen bases in 92 career minor league games, including 21 steals this season, in only 38 games.
The Timber Rattlers currently serve as the single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers
