Minnesota Vikings sign Teddy Bridgewater
By Josh Sanchez
Teddy Bridgewater was drafted at the end of the first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft when the Minnesota Vikings jumped up to grab him. Bridgewater will now have the opportunity to compete with Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder for the team’s starting quarterback job, but first the Vikings needed to get him under contract.
On Tuesday morning, the Vikings announced that they have agreed to a deal with their rookie quarterback.
Financial terms of the deal were not released, but it is reportedly a four-year deal.
Bridgewater watched his draft stock fall in the weeks leading up to the draft for reasons no one was ever able to clearly explain, so now he can work to show all of the teams that passed on him — especially the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns (twice) — that they made a big mistake by passing on him.
It is expected that Bridgewater and Cassel will split first-team reps during training camp and OTAs, so the rookie will be getting an honest shot to win the starting gig.
With offensive coordinator Norv Turner guiding the way for Bridgewater, the former Louisville star couldn’t have found himself in a better position to begin his career in the NFL.
