The Padres went through a scare when their ace, Andrew Cashner had to go to the disabled list with elbow soreness and irritation.

An MRI on Monday morning, according to Dennis Lin of U-T San Diego, though, revealed there was no structural damage. That comes as a huge relief to the Padres who have already lost Josh Johnson for the year to Tommy John surgery.

"“After performing an MRI today on Andrew’s right elbow, our doctors have indicated to me that he has elbow soreness and irritation,” Padres General Manager Josh Byrnes said in a statement released Monday night. “Based on our doctors’ recommendation, we will be proceeding with rest and rehabilitation for his recovery.”"

Cashner was placed on DL after a side throwing session following his most recent start. In that start, he threw seven innings against the Reds, allowing just one run. After his bullpen session, Cashner said he felt a little irritation but was did not think the UCL ligament was going to be a problem. Donn Roach made a start on Sunday and on MLB Network Radio, manager Bud Black said that Roach would make another start if necessary in Cashner’s place.

This season, Cashner has suffered from lack of run support, going 2-5 but with a stellar 2.35 ERA. He has already pitched a complete game shutout, coming off of his first full season as a starter.
