Pirates' Russell Martin, Jason Grilli working same simulated game

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Russell Martin and pitcher Jason Grilli are still trying to fight their way back from the disabled list.

Martin, who’s dealing with a hamstring injury – took some swings on Tuesday and will catch Grilli’s simulated game on Wednesday according to Bill Brink on Twitter.

Keep in mind that Martin still has a suspension to serve once he’s activated from the disabled list. It’s not too long, but he’ll still get an extra day or two of rest when he’s able to return. Both Grilli and Martin were able to get through Tuesday’s simulated game without any issues but Pittsburgh wants to make sure that Grilli’s alright to throw back-to-back games.

If all goes well, he will more than likely be activated from the disabled list after the simulated game and won’t need to participate in a rehab assignment. Great news for both players.
