The Cleveland Cavaliers once again find themselves with the first pick in the upcoming draft and are already looking at all their options for the selection in what is supposed to be a deep draft. While Andrew Wiggins is the favorite for the first pick, the Cavaliers aren’t ruling out other positions of need when looking at the prospects available.

  • The Cavs may now be considering Joel Embiid over Wiggins or Jabari Parker with the first pick, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com.

    Goodman writes:

"Sources also told ESPN.com that while Embiid is first on the organization’s wish list, that doesn’t mean that Cavs general manager David Griffin — who had the interim tag lifted earlier this month — isn’t also considering Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker with the first pick."

Cleveland may be looking for a new wing with Luol Deng entering free agency this offseason, but the Cavs have also been in need of a skilled bigman like Embiid to go with Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson.

The Cameroonian native still has some question marks surrounding him after back issues arose during the March NCAA Tournament causing the center to miss the first three rounds before Kansas was eliminated.

Teams interested in Embiid will likely put him through an examination by their team’s medical staffs to ensure that the history of back problems won’t falter his NBA career.

Barring any discoveries, Joel Embiid is expected to go in the top 5 — and likely even top three — in the upcoming draft.
