The “Hero Cat” that recently saved a Bakersfield boy from being attacked by a dog threw out the ceremonial first pitch at yesterday’s Bakersfield Blaze game.
Yes, a cat threw out the first pitch.
Well, as much as having someone swing your arm and tap a ball down a fishing line counts as a “throw.”

The Blaze are the Triple-A affiliate team for the Cincinnati Reds. As you may expect, the cat didn’t quite get the ball over the plate, but as Tara (the cat) explained, it was her owner’s fault.
Well, I gave it my best shot, but my humans really got in the way. Everyone knows I’m left pawed. — Tara Hero Cat (@taraherocat) May 21, 2014
Here’s a video of events from the day.
In case you’re not familiar with the story, this video below will show exactly what happened. Essentially, a young boy was playing outside when a dog came over and started attacking him. Within seconds “Hero Cat” ran out to protect the boy, attacked the dog, and chased him away while the boy’s mother ran out to tend to her son. It really could have been a lot worse had the cat not intervened.
Who says cats are selfish, uncaring, creatures?
