Now that is looks like current head coach Dave Joerger and the Memphis Grizzlies could be parting ways (Joerger will be interviewing with the Minnesota Timberwolves and is reportedly very close with Timberwolves’ president Flip Saunders), the Grizzlies may looking to replace a successful coach for the second straight offseason.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that Eric Musselman could be a candidate to replace Joerger should he take the Timberwolves’ job.

When Musselman’s name was brought up in connection with the job, it raised a few eyebrows. After all, Musselman hasn’t coached in the NBA since a disappointing stint with the Sacramento Kings in the 2006-2007 season and was just 108-138 as a head coach. It isn’t that Musselman is a bad coach or wouldn’t do a good job, but to part ways with Lionel Hollins just weeks after he led the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals, then dump Joerger after he won 50 games with a team ravaged by injuries without making a legitimate upgrade, just doesn’t make sense.

Apparently, the Grizzlies feel that way too. According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Musselman is not a legitimate candidate for the job.

It looks like the Grizzlies will have to turn their attention elsewhere and with questionable ownership, big names may not be a attracted to the gig.
