Preventing him from falling even further than he already had in the NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals drafted former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron in the fifth round. Over a week after selecting the two-time national championship winner, the team announced on Thursday that they have signed McCarron.

McCarron had a lot going against him coming into the draft with not a lot of scouts seeing his skills transition that smoothly to the next level, and his drop was further explained on the final day last Saturday when reports began to leak that he had rubbed some teams the wrong way in his interviews.

The entire event turned into “McCarron Watch 2014” as everyone wondered who would select him on the final day, and eventually it was the Bengals, immediately after his SEC counterpart, Aaron Murray was selected by the Chiefs.

Still, the selection by the Bengals to bring McCarron in was an intriguing one if for no other reason than the team currently in negotiations with starter Andy Dalton. Given his recent shortcomings in the playoffs, there are some that don’t see him sticking around much longer, despite getting the seal of approval from some in the organization.

Is AJ McCarron the QB of the future for the Bengals?
