Golden State Warriors named Sports Team of the Year award winner

The Golden State Warriors may have had some turmoil surrounding their head coach and owner, but that didn’t stop the organization from exceeding at all levels – both on the floor and off.
Despite a tough first round playoff exit against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Warriors showed the tenacity that has made them one of the NBA’s better teams in recent years, eventually culminating in being named ‘Sports Team of the Year’ by the Sports Business Journal at the seventh annual Sports Business Award.

Golden State defeated a handful of other nominees including the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Blackhawks, Portland Timbers, Seattle Seahawks and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.
Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts, on hand to accept the award, couldn’t contain his excitement.
“Being named ‘Sports Team of the Year’ and recognized for all of the hard work our organization has done this past year is a great honor,” said Welts. “We have an incredible group of talented and committed employees and are looking forward to continuing to grow as an organization as one of the top franchises in all of sports.”
The Warriors, who sold out every game this season, increased their sponsor revenue by 30 percent in addition to experiencing a 40 percent growth in web traffic on Warriors.com.
Golden State also purchased land in San Francisco where they plan to construct a new arena.
