The Montreal Canadiens needed to win in Game 3 if they wanted to avoid being pushed up against the ropes in the Eastern Conference Finals before they could even get settled in. Thankfully for fan Quebec, the Habs were able to finally figure out a way past Henrik Lundqvist in net and snuck away with a 3-2 victory that makes the series tally 2-1.

After going down 1-0 early in the game, the Habs bounced back with two unanswered goals to make the score 2-1 late int he third period. Andrei Markov got the scoring started for Montreal in the second period and the Habs added a third in the final period from Daniel Briere which ended up being the difference maker.

The emotional tone of the game was set right away in the first period when Habs winger Brandon Prust decked Rangers center Derek Stepan with a late hit that went uncalled by the officials and incited the Rangers rage shortly there after. This both restyled in a positive and a negative for New York as while they scored a goal to take the rely lead, Daniel Carcillo was booted from the game after getting a little too personal with the officials on more than one occasion in the minutes following the non-call.

But the Rangers weren’t to be counted down and out, as they managed to get a luck bounce in the final minute of the third period that tied the game and sent it to overtime. But while the Habs may have allowed a goal in the final moments of regulation, they got it right back in the opening moments of the overtime period.

The series is now standing at a 2-1 tally, still in favor of the Rangers but with the Habs slowly building momentum.  This series is far from over and with the Habs clinching at least one more game at home, we can’t count anyone out or hold either team above the other at the specific moment in the series.
