The Denver Broncos went out and signed Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward in free agency as part of their defensive overhaul to a four-year, $23 million contract. Before ever donning the uniform he finds himself in hot water after an arrest warrant was issued regarding an altercation.

“The incident involving T.J. Ward occurred on the evening of May 9 at a nightclub in southeast Denver called Centerfold,” Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson said in a statement to NFL.com. “We determined that there was a dispute, and he was involved in a minor altercation.

“He was issued a summons for simple assault and disturbing the peace, both misdemeanors. The arrest warrant was issued Thursday because he hasn’t turned himself in yet.”

So what was the dispute Ward was involved in? Well those details are now available in the court documents obtained by the Denver PostThe establishment where the incident occurred was PT’s All Nude in Denver and involves a female bartender. Ward’s first interaction with this women was when he approached the bar to get change while holding a glass bottle. The bartender asked him to take it to his car or throw it away.

Ward declined saying he was allowed to have the bottle, according to the court documents. Ward poured from the bottle to into a drink and returned to the bar to ask for ice and the bartender threw it away, and that is when the altercation began.

"The bartender took the cup and poured out the drink. When she turned to help another customer, she felt something hit her wrist, the document said. The video showed Ward watching the bartender after she took away his glass. As she passed him, “he picks up a glass mug that is sitting on the bar and tosses/throws the glass mug at her. The male then walks away,” the court document said."

Ward’s excuse when approached by the club’s bouncers? The glass slipped out of his hand. Ward’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 23.
