New Jersey governor Chris Christie is a avid New York Mets fan, and in a recent interview on WFAN radio’s Boomer and Carton show he said he’d jump at the chance to be the team’s general manager.

“I would love to be general manager of the Mets,” Christie said, via Sporting News. “If Sandy (Alderson) would put his crap in boxes and get out of there now, I’d be happy to go there now.”

It is interesting that Christie would be so willing to “pack up his things” and move for the bright lights of New York City, and, uh, Queens to be the Mets’ general manager. Why do I remember him seemingly criticizing something or someone for leaving New Jersey for New York City?

Oh, it is because he did when the New Jersey Nets moved to Brooklyn.

“I’m not going to the Nets game and my message to the Nets is ‘goodbye,’ ” Christie said before the Nets’ final game in New Jersey. “They want to leave here and go to Brooklyn? Good riddance.

“…Good riddance, see you later. I think there’ll be some other NBA team who may be looking to relocate and they might look at that arena and the fan base in the New Jersey and New York area and say, ‘This is an opportunity to increase our fan base and try something different.’ ”

Yes, this is a completely different situation, the Mets didn’t leave New Jersey and go to New York. But still, it is interesting that he’d willingly leave New Jersey to join the Mets. Too bad they just got that new ballpark, otherwise it could’ve all been part of a plan to bring the Mets to New Jersey to replace the Nets.
