Concord, California native Kahlil McKenzie received the dubious honor on Thursday of becoming a five-star rated prospect according to the 247 Sports recruiting service. Not long after that, the highly sought after class of 2015 defensive tackle announced the final 12 schools on his list, and right at the top was none other than head coach Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Vols were followed on McKenzie’s list, in order, by Arizona, USC, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, UCLA, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Oregon and Texas Tech.
Of course it should come as no shock that McKenzie is heavily leaning towards heading to Knoxville, seeing as his father Reggie and uncle Raleigh were both standout players at Tennessee at one time.
McKenzie, who stands 6-4 and weighs in the area of nearly 310-pounds, is now the 10th overall prospect in the 2015 class coming up this year, and his stock just continues to rise, as was evidenced by receiving his fifth star by the folks at 247.
Through the course of the next year, it’ll be interesting to watch the other schools on the list above try to steal away the services of one of the more athletic defensive line prospects in this class from Jones and the Volunteers.
Although given the success that Jones has had since his arrival on Rocky Top, that’ll be a tough feat to accomplish.
