Some rivalries have existed for ages and just carry on throughout time. Other rivalries usually need a starter, something to kick them into being.

Carlos Torres of the Mets may have just ignited that fire between his club in New York and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Casey Stern of MLB Network Radio spoke with the Mets’ reliever and he had some choice words to say about the “Wild Horse” that roams the Dodgers’ outfield.

It’s no secret that Puig’s work ethic and mental capacity for the game of baseball have been called into question. He made two baserunning blunders in the same game on Thursday at CitiField, resulting in him being tagged out in both cases. One play came as a result of Puig misunderstanding the Infield Fly rule and had to be spoken to by coaches. The second came off of a bad read on a fly ball as Eric Campbell was able to make a diving catch on a ball Puig thought was going to fall. He had already rounded third and was doubled off easily. He was scratched from a game earlier in the year by Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly because he showed up late to the ballpark.

Whether or not the comments were born out of genuine spite for the Cuban outfielder or Torres is really just annoyed at the attention Puig is getting, there’s no doubt that any future encounters between the Mets and Dodgers have a little more drama added to them.
