Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Starting Pitcher Pickups-May 26, 2014

Memorial Day Monday brings us a full day of MLB action to start another fantasy baseball week. No teams get travel days this Monday with baseball games taking place from the Red Sox-Braves 1:00 start through the whole day until the Diamondbacks, Royals, and Dodgers host games starting at 8:10. With all the games on the schedule,  there are lots of starting pitching options for your fantasy team who are all scheduled for two-start weeks.  If you can make the right pickup, you can hold them for their second start on Saturday or Sunday.

To help you make the right pickup,  each day you can find my starting pitcher pickups here on Fansided. Check out my picks archive here where you can also set a bookmark for the daily updates.  To see my recent results, check the chart on the final slide of the post.  All of my choices are available in at least half of ESPN leagues, and their ownership percentage is included in parentheses. For each selection, I also include my perspective of the risk and reward for the scheduled start on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest risk and the highest reward.

Here are the starters to target for Monday’s starts:

Tanner Roark-Miami Marlins (10.0%)

Roark pitched well in his last start against the Reds but took a hard-luck loss to drop to 3-2 on the season as he was outpitched by Alfredo Simon and let down by his defense.

He’ll look to bounce back with another strong start at home as the Nats host their NL East division foe the Miami Marlins at 1:35.  Roark has been especially strong in his four home starts going 2-1 with a 1.01 ERA while holding opponents to a paltry .204 average. His road numbers are much worse mostly due to one bad outing in Phily where he was hammered for seven runs in four innings. Aside from that start, he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts.

Since he’s at home and facing a Marlins offense that has had its issues on the road, Roark makes the best pickup option of those who are available in most leagues.  If you decide to hold Roark, he’s scheduled to face the Rangers on Saturday in his second home start of the week.

Risk-1, Reward-5
