It’s been a whirlwind week for golfer Rory McIlroy but he has seemingly ended things in the best way possible considering all that has preceded it. The big story from this past week was that McIlroy had called off his wedding to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki but he has managed to bury the turmoil in his personal life to capture his first victory on European Tour win on European soil.

McIlroy finished the tournament off by winning first place by the narrowest of margins. A one stroke victory is what it came down to but a win is a win and there will be no complaints from the McIlroy camp this week following the victory at the BMA PGA Championship.

Aside from the turmoil in his personal life, McIlroy has been plagued by a bit of a cold streak in his golfing career, one that saw him passed up at the World No. 1 by Adam Scott who took the title from Tiger Woods.

But while this win alone won’t propel McIlroy to the top of the rankings, it will go a long way in getting his confidence back and to getting his game back to the level it needs to be at. This win alone may not get him back to that level but it’s certainly more encouraging than we’ve seen out of him lately and the better Rory McIlroy is, the more exciting golf in general seems to become.
