Coming off a World Series championship, the Boston Red Sox have struggled immensely to start the 2014 season. Currently, they’re dealing with a 10 game losing streak that has left them with a 20-29 record, last in the AL East and only two games above the lowly Houston Astros in the American League cellar.

More from Boston Red Sox

Today they are down in Atlanta for a little interleague action with the Braves, who have been one of the National League’s best teams. Down 6-1 in the 5th inning, it looked like the Sox were heading for their 11th straight defeat.

A Dustin Pedroia single plated two runs, however, cutting the deficit to just three, and bringing up David Ortiz with two runners on. Big Papi then did what he does best, mashing a three-run bomb to left-center that tied the game up at 6-6.

This was Ortiz’s 12th home run of the season and gave him hist 26th, 27th, and 28th RBIs. Though he still has his immense power, Ortiz has struggled average wise, checking in at just .271 on the season.

The six runs are the most the Red Sox have scored in a game since their last win, when they scored 9 in a defeat of the Minnesota Twins back on May 14. The slump has dropped them to 19th in the league in runs and 24th in team batting average.

The game is currently in a rain delay, so the Sox are going to have to wait a little longer to finish this one up and try to pick up their first win in almost two weeks.
