In a newly released episode of The Bubba Watson Show, pro golfer Bubba Watson talks with motocrosser James Stewart Jr. about their respective professions and about life in general.

Both professionals are self-taught, and extremely good at what they do. Bubba Watson is a two-time Masters champion and James Stewart is considered one of the best motocrossers of all-time. Interestingly, James goes by Bubba, hence the title of the show, “Bubba & Bubba.”

In an age of expert teachers, self-taught golfers are few and far between. You can’t teach Bubba Watson’s swing, and you certainly can’t teach the type of power he produces. Had he been “tamed” by an instructor, who knows if Bubba would have reached for the Green Jacket, and be considered a top-10 pro in the game today.

I would imagine self-taught motocross riders are also rare. Like golf, expert technique is necessary.  However, a passion for the game and “digging it out of the dirt” have enabled both Stewart and Watson to become two of the best.

Bubba Stewart plays golf, and there is a funny moment in the video when the two pros start talking about their appearance on the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive. Stewart had the unfortunate distinction of shanking a shot on the simulator (a shank is the worst shot in golf). However, Stewart redeemed himself by saying he played the 17th at TPC Sawgrass from the pro tees, and hit the green on his first try.
