Before the season began, most baseball experts lavished the Los Angeles Dodgers with praise, and predicted that they would storm to their second consecutive National League West title. However, little did they know, the San Francisco Giants had the best time in baseball, brewing in the bay.

More from MLB

As May is coming to an end, the Giants currently have an outstanding 32-18 record which gives them the best record in all of baseball.

Whilst the Giants didn’t splash big on the free agent market, they did make small, genius deals. For instance, Tim Hudson: signed on a rather small, and under the radar two year deal. Hudson has recovered from the terrible injury he suffered last year, and has dominated in the National League West, even beating Clayton Kershaw at Dodgers stadium.

Mike Morse, signed on a small, low risk, one year deal for the Giants. He has returned to the form of 2011, when he was crushing the ball with the Washington Nationals. Despite playing in the pitcher friendly AT&T Park, Morse has still slugged ten home runs.

He has proved he isn’t an all or nothing strikeout guy either, hitting three doubles and four RBI in last nights victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Last night, the Giants sent out ace Madison Bumgarner to the mound in the rubber match of a three game series against the Twins.

Following suit of Tim Lincecum and Ryan Vogelsong – two starters who are in excellent form despite being dubbed unreliable – he dominated the Twins’ lineup. Bumgarner fired seven innings of one-run-ball with 10 strikeouts, allowing only three hits; leading the Giants to their fifth straight interleague victory.

The Giants have a hot offense, including a revitalised Pablo Sandoval and slugging non-roster invitee, Brandon Hicks, an inform rotation, and a bullpen which boasts the third best bullpen ERA in baseball.

It’s quite simple, the Giants really are a force to be reckoned with.

Regardless of whether you knew it before the season began, you need to take notice, the Giants are serious contenders.
