With two teams heading in opposite directions, soccer fans find themselves with quite the juicy rumor. Barcelona, who are expected to having a cleaning house of sorts, are nearing an agreement with French football giants Paris St. Germain that would send defender Dani Alves to PSG in exchange for youngster center-back Marquinhos as well as €20 million (roughly $27.2 million).
PSG have already made big waves early in the transfer window, signing another Brazilian defender in David Luiz from Chelsea to help solidify their defense.
As a result of the signing, sources report that current-PSG center-back Marquinhos asked to be sold, which explains his inclusion in the deal.
Alves would bring a world-class defender to a PSG side that has been seeking a Champions League trophy since being taken over Qatar Investment Authority in 2011.
Last summer’s big purchase saw them bring in another attacker alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovich in Edison Cavani.
This summer could be another big summer for the club if they continue the high-profile signings.
PSG’s defense was certainly one of their weak spots despite being the home to arguably the world’s best center-back in Brazilian Thiago Silva.
However, the side were knocked out in the quarterfinal round by Barcelona on away goal difference (2-1) despite tying on aggregate, 3-3.
Bringing in the likes Luiz and Alves will certainly work wonders in solidifying the defense and make them one of the favorites for the Champions League trophy next season.
